April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball star from the United States is part of a select category of females who have won medals in more than one Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her third Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, a first time Olympian. Ross hopes to win an Olympic first gold medal, but she's also hoping to win even more. This may be the last time she has the chance to do so at the age of 39. But she's confident top awards can be achieved. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing very well, or even at all, it could be able to win gold. "I'm planning to test a little luck." Ross was born in 1982, and grew up in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors as a prep athlete. While she did well at indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than average. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter middle blocker and setter during her volleyball career at high school. To honor her achievements she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player in 1999. Her skills in volleyball earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Ross and Klineman may be working on a project at the beginning of 2017, but Ross was already an established volleyball player before they came together. She has had the chance to win numerous events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. In the period 2007 until 2013, she was a team together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Kessy was Ross's co-coach at the World Championships of 2009. They took home a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a college athlete for USC Trojans before starting her professional career. She played during high school and in years prior to hitting the beaches as a professional. Ross had an impressive run during her time in the college. In 2000, as a freshman the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. Also, she was one of the key players in helping the Trojans make the Final Four. Her heart was broken by a tragic incident in her sophomore years, yet she went on to be an All-American once more. The last two years with the Trojans' program, she led them to victory by winning successive national titles. Her individual achievements have cemented her status as a legend in volleyball. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross was a major in the field of international relations in USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie never got to see Ross rise to the very top of beach volleyball stardom. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year in USC her mother died of breast cancer. However, she continues to keep her mother's memory close and close. Margie has been an inspiration in her life and on the beach.
